Weekly Status Report #6, Friday March 23 2006

Work Completed/Skills Learned
This week in TIK I have learned a lot of interesting things about programming. On Monday I learned about new data types in Visual Basic, such as: Long, Single, Boolean, Byte, Date and Double. On Tuesday I learned about HSscrollBar and Tracklist. I applied these new skills in developing a Temperature Converter where we enter the Temperature in Fahrenheit and converts it in to Celsius and determines the conditions with Freezing, Cold, Comfortable, Too Hot or Boiling. On Wednesday I had completed Internet Safety assignment to help me prepare for the EGAO. On Thursday and Friday I learned about strings and 16 different string functions, I completed a chart that explains me about each different function. I also developed a program, String Tutorial, that runs ten of the string functions using the ListBox.
Objec
Objectives/Future Goals/Word Remaining
My objectives for the upcoming week is to keep learning about different functions of VB. I won’t to create more programs involving certain types of variables, and I would like to start using functions and debugs more. I am also looking forward to learning more about string and different types of strings. I will try to repeat my notes every weekend so, I can do better on tests and quizzes.
Challenges Faced/How they were resolved
This week I did not run into many problems. I understood most of the information clearly, until different strings functions. I had some trouble creating string program but,
I asked my friends and with their help I completed it successfully. I also was not happy with my test mark( 69%) and I am going to try study harder next time.

Weekly Status Report #4, Friday March 2

Word Completed/Skills learned
This week in TIK I have learned a lot of interesting information about programming. On Monday I learned all about Software Documentation. On Tuesday I worked in class to complete four different assignments using Visual Basic. On Wednesday I learned about If...Then...Else statements. After that I started working on IF, Else, Then exercises . And on Friday teacher tough us all about the Select Case statements and gave us some exercises on them. Over the week I have learned how to create a variety of different programs using Visual Basic and how to use Software Documentation, If, Then, Else and Select Case statements.
Objectives/Future Goals/Word Remaining
My objectives for the upcoming week is to learn how to use Visual Basic better. I finished almost all exercises that TIK gave us to do, all I have to finish is just two Select Case exercises. I am also going to study and try to do good on Quiz on Thursday, since I did not do so well on the previous test. I have downloaded Visual Basic on my home computer so I can get some extra practice outside of class or finish assignments if I did not have enough time to do so in class.
Challenges Faced/How they were resolved
This week I ran into the number of problems with my programs but, with help of TIK and my classmates I could resolve them easily. On Tuesday I did not know how to do documentation for my program, since I missed Monday’s class. So, I asked TIK teacher and she explained it to me briefly. I was also facing difficulties with writing a code for some of my programs so I had to ask my friends for help.

In Conclusion it was another great week of TIK and I am looking forward to learning more about programming.

TIK Weekly Status Report#3, Friday Feb 23

Work completed/Skills learned
I have learned a lot of interesting things this week. On Monday we had a test on everything we have learned so far, it was not so difficult especially the multiple choice part. On Tuesday we learned some basic stuff about VB and did some brain problems. On Wednesday we finally started working on VISUAL BASIC!!!!. I did my first assignment, tax calculator( which was easy because we had step by step instructions). On Friday we continued working on Visual Basic assignments. I learned how to create variables, how to define them, and how to use them to obtain an answer.

Objectives/Future Goals/Work Remaining

My objective for next week is to learn how to use Visual Basic better. I want to learn more about the software and all the different functions it has and to learn how to write my own program using VB language( codes). I am looking forward to getting my first Test and Weekly Status Report marks back. I already downloaded Visual Basic on my home computer so i can get some extra practice outside of class. The first assignment i did outside the class was a web browser.

Challenges faced/How they were resolved

This week I have ran into the number of problems, but with help of my fellow classmates and TIK teacher I could resolved them easily. Some of the problems were: On Wednesday i could figure out how to include tax rate in my calculator. I made a lot of different codes but, none of them worked. So after I asked TIK teacher and with her explanation i finished the calculator. The other problem which I am doing right now is on Assignment#2. After writing all my codes, for some reason the software did not want to do what I wanted it to do, here is what it said: Conversion from string "" to type 'Single' is not valid.I will try asking some of my classmates who already finished the assignment and maybe they can help me on Monday.I also found the flowcharts on the test very difficult and hard to solve.

Weekly Status Report #2, Friday Feb 15

Work completed/Skills learned
I have learned a lot of interesting things this week. On Monday and Tuesday ,we learned about different types of computers , including information about the input and output sources, the CPU and and how it works. We also learned about what types of ram and memory there is in computer and the pseudo code.On Thursday( the day after we had a snow day _-_) teacher explained us the different types of software programs. And finally on Friday we got our flow chart assignments back and did some interesting stuff on Cryptography. We did not get to spend much time on computer( mainly because visual basic have not been yet installed)
Objectives/Future Goals/Work Remaining
My objectives for next week is to learn how to use visual basic( if it finally gets installed on computers). I am also looking forward to learning more about cryptography, flowcharts and other information we are going to learn in TIK.I found cryptography really interesting and i hope we are going to learn more about it next week. Other then that, i will want to do well on a test Monday, so i will study really hard for that. Test on Monday is going to cover everything we have learned so far: problem solving, flowcharts and computer parts.
Challenges faced/How they were resolved
This week i have ran into the number of problems, but with help of my fellow classmates and i could resolve them easily. Some of the problem were, i did not really understand how to graph flowcharts, but after teacher did some examples on the board i finally understood how to do it. Also on Friday i could not figure out how to make cryptographic flowchart, so teacher had to explain it to me. I really liked what we did this week but, i cannot wait to start working on Visual Basic!!!!.

Super Bowl 41

Hello everyone. Another year and another Football season has ended. It was the Colts that beat the Bears 29-17 in Super Bowl 42. I knew that Colts were going to win but, i was cheering for the Bears since Colts beat my favourite team New England. A lot of turnovers and as Always a bad play ability by Rex Grossman caused Bears the Super Bowl.
